October Campaign

Stand Up for Our Immigrants

No American needs to be reminded of the xenophobic agenda of our country's current administration.  Just so, no resident of New Jersey's 8th district needs to be reminded of the importance of immigrants to our communities.

This month, join NJ-08 For Progress in standing up for the many immigrants that call our district, and our country, home.

1.  THIS TUESDAY! End 287g in Hudson County.

Over the course of the past several months, the activists in Hudson For All have worked tirelessly to end the 287g immigrant detention program in Hudson County.

This Tuesday, October 10th, join the newly-formed coalition in Union City for the launch of a county-wide effort to #end287g.

The Board of Chosen Freeholders is finally poised to address ongoing concerns at the Hudson County Detention Center.  Our actions now will provide the final push to make the county break its ties with federal immigration enforcement & restore human rights for immigrants in our community.

Can't make it to Union City?  That's okay!  If you are a resident of Hudson County, sign this letter online to demand County Executive Tom DeGise to end the 287g agreement NOW.

2.  BEFORE OCT 17!  Oppose Federal Monitoring of Immigrants and Citizens on Social Media

The Department of Homeland Security wants to expand social media monitoring of immigrants, their legal guardians, greencard holders and naturalized citizens. The proposed policy violates the 1st & 4th Amendments, but does nothing to make us safer.

Until Oct. 17, DHS is collecting public comment on the policy. Tell them it would have a chilling effect on free speech, is intrusive and is one more example of Trump's anti-immigrant agenda.

Thanks to Jen's Activism Checklist for this action!
